　　Plastic and Curved-Surface Lamps

　　From candlestick bulbs to special lighting effects to edge-lit luminaires, plastic is finding new uses paired with LEDs. Compared to OLED, curved LED lighting is much cheaper, and edge-lighting technology also leads to very thin luminaire designs.

　　The company's candlestick base lamp uses a plastic light guide to shape the LED lamp, so it can mimic the flame-like light of an incandescent candlestick lamp.

LG Chem's OLED demonstration was impressive—not only flexible but also bendable in real time—as it is considered a good material for shaping kinetic light sculptures. The potential applications go beyond LED light sources and can be easily realized. In addition, LG Electronics said at LIGHTFAIR that it is cutting OLED panel prices.

　　Corning is a global leader in specialty glass and ceramic materials. The company recently showcased Fibrance, which is illuminated by laser diodes. It can be used to decorate clothing, cars, bicycles, etc. It looks great at night, is easy to shape, and unlike similar EL light-emitting wires which have a relatively limited lifespan, Fibrance is an optical fiber illuminated by a single laser diode. Like EL, it offers wide versatility and light intensity, but has a much longer lifespan limited only by that of the laser diode. It is available in fixed or variable colors, achieved through an RGB laser diode module about the size of a single AAA battery. ?

　　The company showcased a relatively low-priced edge-lit plastic product that emits light from a curved surface. The plastic also serves as a light diffuser, eliminating the pixelated effect of multiple LED point light sources.
