Apple recently announced that it will launch the HomeKit program, which is a cooperative program approved by Philips, Cree, Osram, and other companies. The HomeKit plan aims to establish a unified smart home management platform for home devices, allowing all smart home products to be managed centrally in one place, connecting all devices in a simple, universal language. Examples include common network protocols for lighting, as well as controlling door locks, thermostats, garage door openers, and more. Smart lighting is often regarded as an IoT capable of light communication: easily tuning smart bulbs may become radio receivers or transceivers that can interconnect and locate the entire home.
  1. Lighting Science Group's Color-Tunable Definity A19 Series Bulbs
The company stated that the bulb can help people sleep and regulate the body's natural physiological rhythm; for example, producing bluer light in the morning to help wake up, and using redder light at night to help fall asleep.
  2. Philips HUE
The first smartphone-controlled RGB home bulb system, paired with the battery-free wireless light switch Hue Tap, allows intelligent adjustment of Hue bulb lighting through a companion app installed on smart devices, adjusting the color and brightness of Hue bulbs, and can also communicate and control via smartphone and home Wi-Fi wireless network.
  3. TCP Home Smart Bulb
Includes three bulbs and a gateway, controlled through a smartphone app or the included remote wireless device. The wireless network is based on 6LoWPAN. TCP will also launch a new smart bulb series later this year, with BLE connection, which doesn't require a gateway and allows simpler control and debugging. Each bulb can have multiple timers; homeowners can program on/off times, and can control the lights even when the homeowner and smartphone are not in the house.
4. Osram Lightify Product Series
Osram will enter the smart bulb business and launch its Lightify product series this autumn, supporting multiple network protocols: ZigBee wireless network connection and DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface). Osram has also launched its new 3-Way lamp, the Sylvania Ultra Omnidirectional lamp — 4W/7W/14W LED lamp equivalent to 25/40/75W incandescent lamp, providing 300/500/1100 lumens.
5. Lighting Alliance
The Lighting Alliance is promoting an open protocol for indoor lighting based on the ZigBee network. The alliance also demonstrated Philips Hue bulbs and Leedarson smart bulbs being alternately controlled through various devices.
