Zhejiang Shangguang Hosts Free Incandescent Bulb to Energy-Saving Lamp Exchange Event

　　On November 1, 2011, the National Development and Reform Commission, together with the Ministry of Commerce, the General Administration of Customs, the State Administration for Industry and Commerce, and the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, jointly issued Announcement No. 28, announcing that starting from October 1, 2012, the import and sale of ordinary lighting incandescent lamps of 100 watts and above would be prohibited. According to estimates, China's lighting electricity consumption accounts for approximately 12% of the total electricity consumption of society. If all incandescent lamps in use are replaced with energy-saving lamps, annual electricity savings of 48 billion kWh can be achieved, equivalent to a reduction of 48 million tons of CO2 emissions, with huge potential for energy conservation and emission reduction.

　　In order to strengthen the promotion of China's roadmap for the gradual phase-out of incandescent lamps and raise public awareness of green living, the National Development and Reform Commission, the United Nations Development Programme, and the Project Management Office of the Global Environment Facility's "China's Gradual Phase-Out of Incandescent Lamps and Accelerated Promotion of Energy-Saving Lamps" organized the "Farewell to Incandescent Bulbs, Light Up Green Life" promotional campaign.

　　The promotional campaign received strong support from several domestic lighting companies. As the largest domestic manufacturer of LED tube lighting fixtures in China, Zhejiang Shangguang Lighting Co., Ltd., in order to promote the concept of energy conservation and environmental protection and in response to the national strategy of energy saving, emission reduction, and the gradual phase-out of incandescent lamps, held an event on December 25 at the Hengli Small Park in Shangyu City, Zhejiang Province, where incandescent bulbs were replaced free of charge with energy-saving lamps. Although the weather was slightly overcast that day, it could not dampen the enthusiasm of the general public for participating. By exchanging two incandescent bulbs regardless of condition, one could receive a free 20W energy-saving lamp gifted by Shangguang Company. As it happened to be Christmas Day, no wonder the citizens were all smiles, calling Shangguang Company the "Santa Claus" who distributed gifts. Zhejiang Shangguang Lighting Co., Ltd. has actively devoted itself to the green lighting industry. Not only has it organized a series of promotional activities for energy conservation and environmental protection, but it has also partnered with the Hengli Community of Baiguan Subdistrict, which has a large population in Shangyu City, to post "Farewell to Incandescent Bulbs, Light Up Green Life" promotional posters in the community's science popularization bulletin board, a public display area, spreading the concept of green and low-carbon living to thousands of households and into the hearts of everyone.
