The Beijing Office Opening of Cybernet Engineering Systems Development (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. and the Optical Technology VIP Summit were held in Beijing on the afternoon of July 12, 2012. Specially invited guests, the CEO of the Optical Division of Synopsys in the United States, Mr. George Bazy, and the Global Sales Director, Mr. Stuart David, made a special trip to attend, engaging in dialogues with executives of Chinese LED display backlight (BLU) and lighting industries, university professors, and government officials to jointly explore the application and promotion of advanced optical design and simulation technologies in high-tech product development and manufacturing.

Wang Qian, General Manager of Cybernet's Beijing Office, introduced the purpose and development plan of the Beijing Office, while Chen Yang, Vice President of Cybernet Group's Japanese headquarters and General Manager of China, introduced the situation of the Cybernet Group and its strategy in the Chinese market. The CYBERNET Group is the largest CAE technical services company in Japan, established in Tokyo, Japan in 1985, and is a publicly listed company in Japan (stock code: 4312). It has more than 500 employees and an annual turnover of nearly 21 billion yen. The group's headquarters is located in Tokyo, Japan, with branches in Osaka and Nagoya; since 2005, the company has actively expanded its international service philosophy and successively established subsidiaries in Mainland China, Taiwan, the United States, Canada, and Belgium. The CYBERNET Group is a company specializing in providing CAE software, industry solutions, and related technical services. Over the past 27 years, it has established long-term partnerships with more than 20 top global CAE technology companies, providing customers with more than 50 kinds of CAE software and hardware products. CYBERNET has opened the world's first CAE University in Tokyo, providing professional technical training courses on a full-time basis. The solutions provided by CYBERNET cover various disciplines including optics, electronics, mechanics, control systems, communications, IT information technology, nanotechnology, new drug development, and knowledge innovation, providing customers with solutions and services for the entire process from product conceptual design, physical design, simulation optimization, design verification, and product performance testing.

Mr. George Bazy, CEO of the Optical Division of Synopsys, USA, introduced the history of the Optical Division and its positioning in the Chinese market. The Optical Division of Synopsys was formed from the acquisition of the U.S. company ORA in October 2010. ORA is a globally leading developer of optical design and analysis software. Its imaging design software CodeV and optical design software LightTools enjoy worldwide fame, with LightTools being the preferred software for backlight design optimization worldwide, having gained widespread application in Japan, Korea, and Taiwan 10 years ago; CodeV is the preferred design tool for optical lens manufacturers worldwide. In addition, ORA provides the world's largest independent optical engineering design services, having completed more than 4,800 cases of various optical system design services including imaging and illumination. George stated that he would pay great attention to the Chinese market, bringing the successful experience from the United States to China to serve China's rapidly growing optical industry.

Mr. Stuart David, Global Sales Director of the Optics Division at Synopsys, introduced the latest progress and development plans of the renowned optical design software LightTools and imaging design software CodeV. He pointed out that the current demand for LED backlit TVs in China is growing, from edge-lit backlights, direct-lit backlights to dynamic dimming BLU, with the technical difficulty becoming increasingly complex. As the preferred software for global backlight dot-pattern design and optimization, LightTools has been used in Japan for more than 10 years since the CCFL backlight era. Mr. Stuart David is pleased to see that all of China's major TV manufacturers are using LightTools software to develop and design backlight panels. He believes that more than 100 professional backlight panel suppliers in China will gradually adopt LightTools software, and the level of China's backlight panel industry will be greatly enhanced. Mr. Stuart David also introduced the newly added streetlight design function of LightTools software, which will benefit the development and promotion of LED streetlights in China. Regarding the imaging design software CodeV, Mr. Stuart David particularly emphasized the opportunities in mobile devices. As the pixel count of cameras has rapidly increased from 2 million 2 years ago to the current 12 million, the difficulty of designing mobile device cameras has greatly increased. CodeV software can effectively enhance lens development capabilities and manufacturing yield. Mr. David said, "We will increase our technical support efforts in China."

Mr. Ma from BOE Chagu Electronics analyzed the current status of China's display backlight module technology. He introduced the development history of BOE Chagu Electronics in LED backlight modules, analyzed existing problems, and anticipated future opportunities and challenges in the backlight industry chain.

Secretary-General Niu Pingjuan from the Tianjin Semiconductor Industry Alliance introduced the development of Tianjin's LED lighting industry. Director Liu from the High-tech Division of the Tianjin Municipal Science and Technology Commission introduced Tianjin's LED industry policies, hoping everyone would invest in Tianjin for common development. Secretary-General Guan Baiyu from the MIIT LED Lighting Industry Alliance introduced the plans and deployment of the MIIT regarding the formulation of national standards for LED lighting. Director Jiang from the Lighting Science and Technology Promotion Center of the National Semiconductor Industry Alliance exchanged views with Mr. Stuart David, Global Sales Director of the Optics Division at Synopsys, on the qualification examination and training for LED lighting engineers, hoping to provide LightTools usage rights for training. Dr. Li Hongtao and Professor Wang Dajian from Tsinghua University and Tianjin University of Technology exchanged views with senior executives of Synopsys regarding the educational preferential plan for optical design software in China.

Attendees unanimously stated that this summit was an interactive communication among government, academia, research, and industry, as well as a communication between China and foreign partners to promote industrial progress. Everyone hoped that the Cybernet Group would hold such an event annually to promote the enhancement of China's technological innovation capabilities.
