On July 6, Jiangmen held a work meeting on the promotion and application of LED lighting products, requiring the entire city to complete the transformation of using LED lighting products in the field of public lighting before the end of 2014.

At the promotion meeting, the municipal government signed target responsibility letters with the district governments, the high-tech zone, and the Binjiang New District Management Committee.

Vice Mayor Wu Guojie of Jiangmen City pointed out: Pengjiang, Xinhui, and Jianghai districts, along with Heshan City, should strive to complete the transformation of using LED lighting products in the public lighting field within two years, namely before the end of 2013, and other districts should also complete it before the end of 2014. At the same time, technical R&D should be strengthened to master core key technologies; supervision and management should be enhanced to ensure high-quality and safe promotion and application projects.

Reporters have learned that LED's market share in the lighting market is still less than 5%, but the country's efforts to promote this technology are unprecedented. According to China's "12th Five-Year Special Plan for the Development of Lighting Science and Technology," by 2015, China's LED lighting industry scale will reach 500 billion yuan, with LED lighting products accounting for 30% of general lighting. The plan will focus on cultivating 20-30 leading enterprises, building 20 national-level industrial bases and 50 "Ten Cities, Ten Thousand Lights" pilot demonstration cities, and promoting China's semiconductor lighting industry to enter the world's top three.
