From "Illuminating" to "Creating Atmosphere": New Trends in Hotel and Commercial Lighting Development

Source: China Light Views: 3868

Stepping into a high-end hotel in 2025, what we may first notice is not luxurious décor, but light that adjusts precisely with our steps, changes according to our needs, and even perceives our emotions. In a smart hotel in Shanghai that has just completed its renovation, the lighting system is fully integrated with room management. When guests book a room via the app, the system begins preparing a personalized light environment: business travelers receive work lighting that enhances focus, while vacationing families enjoy warm, relaxing ambient light.

Behind this lies a fundamental shift occurring in the field of hotel and commercial lighting—moving from simply "illuminating spaces" to "creating scenarios," upgrading from functional facilities to emotional connectors and efficiency accelerators.

From "Functional Needs" to "Experiential Value"

In 2025, the growth logic of the hotel lighting market has completely changed. According to the "2025 China Hotel Industry Development Report", the chain rate of mid-to-high-end hotels has doubled compared to 2018, while economy hotels have entered a period of stock renovation. This structural change has directly driven the upgrade of lighting demands. Hotels are no longer just places for accommodation, but "third spaces" carrying multiple functions such as socializing, leisure, and work. The lighting system has also taken on more missions. A newly opened high-end hotel in Shenzhen, through carefully designed light environments, has turned its lobby into a composite space for reception, socializing, and leisure. During the day, ample natural light combines perfectly with artificial lighting; at night, the Light / Lighting creates a warm yet stylish social atmosphere. This "scenario-based design of light" has directly increased the hotel's non-room revenue. As emphasized by Huayi Decorative lighting at the 2024 Shenzhen International Hotel & Commercial Space Expo, their "Lighting + Solution" core competitiveness is reflected in their full-case customization capability from concept design to on-site support, shaping unique spatial experiences through lighting engineering. It is understood that in Shenzhen alone, the area of new construction and existing hotel renovations is expected to grow by 18% in 2025. And with every renovation, the lighting system is a core module. Light / Lighting not only relates to visual effects but also directly impacts energy consumption control, space utilization efficiency, and customer experience satisfaction.

Intelligent Scenario-Based Reconstruction of Lighting Value

The hotel lighting systems of 2025 have evolved true "intelligence". The latest solutions exhibited at the Shanghai International Commercial & Engineering Lighting Expo can already achieve full-spectrum dynamic control, multi-scenario adaptive switching, and cross-system collaborative work. The core breakthrough of intelligence lies in the fact that the lighting system no longer operates in isolation, but is deeply integrated with the hotel's entire operational ecosystem. Through IoT technology, the lighting system connects with the room management system, energy management platform, and even customer behavior data platforms, forming a truly "smart light environment". For example, Hongyan Electric launched its latest solution centered on the integrated model of "smart hardware + cloud management + service ecosystem" at hotel and commercial space exhibitions in Shanghai and Shenzhen. Through the cloud management system, it achieves multi-device collaborative interaction, controls whole-house lighting with a single voice command, and combines circadian lighting with sleep temperature control to provide a seamless smart experience. Guests can switch between 11 types of scenarios such as "Work Mode" and "Sleep Mode" with a voice command, and the system automatically links curtains, door locks, and temperature control devices to create a light environment that aligns with human circadian rhythms. In the application at X Future Hotel in Xiamen, this solution reduced energy consumption by more than 30% through a combination of algorithmic and behavioral energy saving, while enhancing the convenience and comfort of the customer experience.

Even more cutting-edge is "emotional lighting" technology. Some high-end hotels have begun to try regulating guest emotions through light—using light simulating sunrise to gently wake guests in the morning, high color temperature light to enhance focus in the afternoon, and low color temperature warm light to help relaxation in the evening. Boke Lighting understands this well; its multi-dimensional intelligent Dimming system can precisely control Color temperature and Illuminance, and specifically addresses the anxiety of business travelers by providing "light recipes" with emotional healing functions, filtering out travel noise with light. The value of this "imperceptible intelligence" lies in providing ultimate comfort while achieving remarkable energy saving effects.

Coordinating Healthy Lighting and Green Low-Carbon Comprehensive Development

The lighting industry's response strategy is comprehensive: from adopting high-efficiency LED sources and intelligent dimming strategies, to optimizing the product lifecycle carbon footprint, and further to building a luminaire recycling and reuse system. Chenhui Guangbao's panel lights, linear lights, and other products have significant advantages in green energy saving and low-carbon healthy design; while Hongyan Electric's solutions precisely focus on high-energy-consuming scenarios such as lighting, integrating behavioral and algorithmic energy saving. Energy saving achieved through lighting systems has become an important scoring item for hotels to obtain green building certification.

Creating a new paradigm for cross-regional collaboration

Competition in the lighting industry in 2025 has long surpassed mere performance comparisons of single products, entering a contest of system solutions and ecosystem integration capabilities. For example, the "Shenzhen Headquarters + Zhongshan Manufacturing" linkage model, which has developed rapidly in the Greater Bay Area in recent years, is particularly noteworthy—Shenzhen leverages its advantages in design, brand, and digital operations, while Zhongshan provides efficient manufacturing and supply chain support, forming an organic integration of the industry chain. This collaborative ecosystem is evident in the exhibitor lists of recent hotel and commercial space lighting exhibitions: from Hongyan Electric and Huayi Decorative Lighting providing overall solutions, to Jusheng Lighting and Jinhuang Optoelectronics focusing on niche products, to Bright and Qinchuang Optoelectronics ensuring core components, together constituting a complete industrial map.

This collaboration occurs not only on the manufacturing side but also on the application side. Lighting companies are establishing deep cooperation with technology firms, design agencies, and hotel management groups to jointly create unreplicable spatial experiences. For example, lighting systems link with building automation systems to optimize energy use; integrate with interior design to create unique aesthetic expressions; and even combine with hotel brand strategies to strengthen brand recognition through the light environment. Like Jinhan Lighting, which constructs a full-case service system based on the "Four Beauties" standard, and achieves a dual breakthrough in artistic design and efficiency improvement through its self-developed intelligent control system.

Light is no longer a passive lighting tool, but has become an active "scene creator" that shapes the character of space. In 2025, when we talk about hotel experiences, we are talking not only about the comfort of bedding or the attentiveness of service, but also about the just-right, unforgettable light. For practitioners, this "light and shadow revolution" has just begun—whoever can establish advantages in the three dimensions of intelligence, health, and sustainability will find their bright future in the industry upgrade from "illumination" to "scene creation".
