The annual lighting industry gala is approaching. The 26th GILE (Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition) will be grandly held from June 9 to 12, 2021, at the China Import and Export Fair Complex in Guangzhou. The exhibition is committed to providing a more efficient business platform for practitioners and continuing to contribute to the lighting industry.

Regarding the content of the 2021 exhibition, Mr. Hu Zhongshun, General Manager of Guangzhou Guangya Messe Frankfurt Co., Ltd., stated: "The focus of future lighting industry development remains light quality, moving towards an era of 'human-centric' smart lighting, evolving from single-product, one-way control to multi-directional interactive smart systems. In terms of application areas, lighting will become more personalized and scenario-based, with greater prospects in home, new commercial spaces, cities, green energy saving, network interconnectivity, and even overall city management. The future industry will see significant cross-boundary development, including deep integration with home living, the Internet, and art. This year, GILE will continuously improve the concept of the future lighting ecosystem by focusing on cross-sector integration across various segments, uncovering more cooperation opportunities for industry development."

Smart lighting creates spaces and scenarios

Whole-Home Smart Lighting

Whole-home smart lighting enables everyone to enjoy the comfort and convenience brought by technology. An indispensable part of this is smart lighting, with features such as one-touch control, scene linkage and switching, timed on/off, countdown timer, and automatic adjustment of luminance and color temperature to match the surrounding environment and protect the eyes. Smart lighting also covers different spaces, including designs suitable for bedroom lighting.

New Commercial Spaces

As purchasing power rises, consumers focus not only on products but also on the overall shopping environment experience. New commercial spaces represent a fusion of commerce, culture, and technology. Intelligence has become the biggest trend in new commercial lighting, turning every area into a highlight and enhancing commercial value. The professional requirements for integrating commercial lighting with operations are increasing; personalized scene design in commercial spaces can attract more foot traffic. Effective use of retail lighting systems and design helps create distinctive physical store environments, marking a new direction for merchants and operators.

Healthy Lighting / Educational Lighting

Lighting plays an important role in daily life. Lighting quality, color, and daylight duration all have multifaceted effects on individuals. In recent years, the myopia rate among children and adolescents in China has been rising continuously, with trends toward younger ages and higher severity. Educational lighting can create an efficient and comfortable learning environment; appropriate light sources, daylighting, and lighting layout must be selected for both daytime and evening use. Additionally, illuminance levels, uniformity, and comfort must comply with standards.

GILE and the Shanghai Intelligent Lighting Association (SILA) have joined forces to set up a special Smart Health Cross-industry Demonstration Pavilion in Hall 9.2, showcasing two major themes: "Smart" and "Health":

Smart — The demonstration pavilion showcases the new smart lighting ecosystem, providing a one-stop display of smart lighting applications and solutions, power supplies, LED drivers and control devices, smart lighting sensors, IoT platform and communication technology R&D, components, smart software and hardware, and LED chips and light sources. Through the demonstration pavilion, we aim to deepen the integration of lighting technology with advanced technologies such as communications and the Internet of Things, promoting the practical implementation of smart lighting.

Health — The demonstration pavilion showcases the latest optoelectronic technologies, combined with targeted concurrent activities, staying close to market pulses to facilitate exchange and business negotiations within the horticultural lighting and UV LED ecosystems.

Under the "spring breeze" of new infrastructure and the night economy, outdoor lighting and nightscape / landscape lighting for culture and tourism have become "new hotspots"

Outdoor Lighting, 5G Smart Poles, Intelligent Control Products

With strong national support for the "New Infrastructure" policy, 5G technology is boosting the "digital and intelligent" development of new smart cities. Outdoor lighting, 5G smart poles, intelligent control systems, and solution products will see vast development opportunities. Additionally, as the national "Service Functions and Operation Management Specifications for Smart Multifunctional Poles" enters the public consultation phase, dozens of provinces and cities across the country have issued policies supporting the design, construction, and functional standards of smart poles, ushering in a true boom for smart poles. GILE and the Gaoyou Luminaire Association are jointly organizing an exhibition group in Hall 5.1 to showcase cutting-edge smart street lights and 5G smart poles. Major road lighting and street light brands will also exhibit in Halls 1.1 and 3.1.

Cultural Tourism Landscape Lighting

According to the "2020 China Nighttime Economy Development Report" released by the China Tourism Academy, the number of nighttime tourists in China has recovered since February 2020, returning to pre-pandemic levels by late April. With the recovery of the cultural tourism industry and a warming market, under the major trend of integrating culture, tourism, and lighting, the exhibition will collaborate with Aladdin Omni-Media to create the "2021 Cultural Tourism Night Tour Ecology Exhibition Area" in Hall 2.1, activating cultural and tourism resources and injecting new vitality into their development. This aims to promote the development of China's nighttime cultural tourism economy and build a new development pattern where domestic and international dual cycles mutually reinforce each other. The Cultural Tourism Night Tour Ecology Development Forum and Exhibition Area will unite seven major sectors: owners, investors, content planning, scheme design, innovative products, engineering construction, and project operation. By combining on-site displays and lighting performances with high-end forums, it will foster new formats of cultural-tourism integration, promote the formation of a new cultural tourism lighting industry ecosystem and a digitalized new supply chain, give birth to new business models for cultural tourism development, improve the effective supply level of the cultural tourism industry, and open up new spaces for its development. Event highlights include:

1. 2021 Cultural Tourism Night Tour Ecology Development Forum

2. China's First Light Art Exhibition

3. Cultural Tourism Night Tour Ecosystem Display Area

4. Release of the 2021 Yearbook of Chinese Characteristic Cultural Tourism Projects

Niche Lighting Sector — The New Favorite in Blue Ocean Markets

Post-pandemic era, increased awareness of sterilization and disinfection

UV-C products with sterilization and disinfection efficacy are growing steadily driven by epidemic prevention demands, and consumers are gradually adapting to market prices. Having overcome key challenges in technical difficulty and market pricing, the future development of UV-C LED is expected to remain promising. Technical focal points such as packaging materials for UV-C LED, process techniques—especially luminous efficacy—and material absorption issues are all important technical factors.
