China Lighting Industry High-Quality Development Forum

In active response to the call put forward by the Party at the Fifth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee that "social development should take promoting high-quality development as its theme," the "China Lighting Industry High-Quality Development Forum" was officially held at 10:00 a.m. on April 23, 2021, in the conference room on the seventh floor of the Guangdong Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Institute. The forum was hosted by the Guangdong Lighting Society and co-organized by the Guangdong Optical Environment Industry Technology Innovation Alliance, the Provincial-Ministerial Industry-Academia-Research Innovation Alliance for Semiconductor Lighting Engineering, and the Guangdong Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Institute.

With the theme of "Promoting High-Quality Development, Creating High-Quality Life," the forum gathered representatives from market regulation authorities, urban lighting management departments, national universities and research institutions specializing in urban lighting planning and design, lighting manufacturing enterprises, as well as experts and scholars in smart lighting technology and industry standard formulation, and corporate representatives. They focused on exchanging views on the new trends of multi-industry integration and discussed the new trends in the high-quality development of the lighting industry.

Nearly 200 people attended the event on the day. After entering the venue, guests were guided by staff to the registration desk to sign in and take photos, creating a lively atmosphere.

In response to national epidemic prevention and control policies, attendees were seated with alternating seats left empty at the conference venue.

Leaders' Address

At the beginning of the Forum, He Qiurong, Deputy Director of the Quality Supervision Division of the Guangdong Provincial Administration for Market Regulation, took the stage to deliver an address. She stated: "The Provincial Administration selected eight institutions with strong technical capabilities and high comprehensive quality to establish the first batch of provincial-level 'Product Hospitals,' including the Lighting Electrical Products Hospital established at the Guangdong Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Institute. The main functions of the Product Hospital include jointly carrying out activities with industry organizations to co-govern product quality and safety 'diseases.' It provides 'one-on-one' quality assistance to enterprises that wish to produce compliant products but lack sufficient capabilities." At the end of her speech, she wished the Forum every success.

Subsequently, Mr. Xiao Guowei, Chairman of the Guangdong Lighting Society, stated in his address: "The LED lighting industry in Guangdong Province is relatively mature and healthy. Therefore, with strong government support, the cohesion of lighting enterprises, and increasing support in talent, technology, and capital, the severe situation in the optoelectronics development industry has been effectively improved. After the storm comes the rainbow; true steel is made through repeated tempering."

In his speech, Huang Haikun, Vice President of the Guangdong Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Institute, mentioned that in recent years, the development quality of China's lighting industry has been unbalanced and inadequate. He pointed out that today's meeting serves as a platform for the Guangdong Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Institute, together with numerous domestic lighting research institutions and brand enterprises such as Sanan Optoelectronics, to share their experience in quality management and improvement, as well as advanced international lighting technologies. Therefore, he considered this Forum to be highly necessary and timely.

The first speaker was Ms. Lin Haoxin, Assistant Director of the Resource and Environment Research Branch of the China National Institute of Standardization. With the theme "Progress in Energy Saving and Low-Carbon Standardization under the Background of Carbon Neutrality and Carbon Peaking," she delivered a highly professional and vivid speech. She mentioned that President Xi Jinping stated at the Leaders' Climate Summit via video link on the evening of April 22 that China will strive to peak carbon emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060. This means that in the next ten, fifteen, or even more years, carbon neutrality and carbon peaking will be unavoidable topics, and we must do our work well in this field.

Mr. Wang Hongbo from OPPLE Lighting Co., Ltd. spoke on the theme "Road lighting, helping to build beautiful cities." In his speech about street light renovation, he mentioned three keywords: safety, professionalism, and intelligence. He emphasized the importance of safety, as a major pain point in road lighting is that sometimes lights have lost connection but this has not been detected in time, posing significant safety hazards.

In his speech on "Smart lighting and high-quality life," Mr. Zhou Ning, Product Director of Guangdong Sanxiong Aurora Lighting Co., Ltd., raised a question: "What is smart lighting?" This question triggered reflection among those present. He said that smart lighting should think for us and solve some small difficulties in our lives. For example, choosing high-quality bedroom light can improve melatonin secretion and enhance sleep quality. At the end of his speech, he showcased excellent cases such as Sanxiong smart home and smart campus systems to the audience.

At 12:20, guided by the on-site staff, the guests entered the cafeteria in an orderly manner to enjoy lunch, spending a pleasant break time.

At 1:40 PM, Mr. Chen Haibo, Director of the Lighting Laboratory at the Guangdong Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Institute, delivered a presentation on "High-Quality Development of Standardization in Lighting Testing and Certification." He clearly explained the concept of the "Top Runner Standard," highlighting that it encourages enterprises to establish standards higher than the National standard (GB / GB/T) to enhance market competitiveness and promote product improvement. Director Chen made full use of the Forum for promotion, sharing valuable insights.

Dr. Zhang Yi from Hc Semitek Corporation discussed "Technological Innovation in High-Quality Automotive LED Chips," stating that the future prospects for automotive lighting are very promising. Data shows that China's demand for automotive lights accounts for a significant share globally. In his report, he detailed the unique technical features and advantages of Hc's R/Y series for automotive applications. Finally, he stated that Sanan Optoelectronics will continue to improve chip quality to better cope with the increasingly complex international environment.

Dr. Zeng Zhaoming from Guangdong Jinko Electronic Co., Ltd., in his presentation on "Development of High Luminous Efficacy and High-Quality Lighting LED Devices," provided a detailed introduction to the high-quality development of LED devices for the attendees, covering three aspects: development trends of lighting LED devices, ultra-high luminous efficacy LED products, and light quality.

Mr. Jiao Yang, Strategic Project Director at Meizhi Optoelectronic Technology Co., Ltd., first introduced their main business direction for this year in his talk on "Smart Interconnected Health Education Lighting," and then provided a detailed introduction to "education lighting." He mentioned that the R&D colleagues at the company headquarters have invested significant effort and resources into education lighting, and Meizhi Optoelectronics has launched corresponding smart solutions for classroom renovation in smart campuses.

Mr. Liao Qiongkai, founder of Zhongkai Lighting Planning and Design (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd., brought us a visual feast through video in his talk on "Improving Vision." He stated that humans perceive the beauty of the world through their eyes and ears, but since the concept of beauty is difficult to unify, he emphasized the importance of innovation.

Mr. Zhu Yunbo, General Manager of MLS Co., Ltd. Industrial Lighting in Zhongshan, stated in his discussion on "The Development Trends of High-Quality Fire Emergency Lighting Products in China" that while many industry leaders currently do not pay enough attention to fire emergency lighting, he remains optimistic about the future market size of this sector. He believes that fire emergency lighting offers enterprises huge market potential. He concluded his speech with passion, stating: "The future is here."

Mr. Fang Chao, Product Project Manager at the Intelligent Research Institute of Shenzhen EXC Technology Co., Ltd., first briefly introduced the development history of EXC in his presentation on "Smart IoT, Cloud Control for the World – EXC-ECCP 4.0 Smart Cloud Control Platform," and then provided a detailed introduction to the cloud control platform. He stated that, due to the accumulation of past experience, EXC has certain advantages in platform technology, which he summarized as safety, stability, intelligence, and scalability.

Mr. Shang Jiaodong, Director of the South China Region at Shenzhen Unilumin Technology Co., Ltd., gave a brief introduction to Unilumin's corporate vision, development, and business in his presentation on "Lighting and Display Boosting the Night Tourism Economy." During his speech, he mentioned that many people mistake esports for mere gaming, which is a misunderstanding; in fact, esports is also a type of sports competition.

Mr. Ye Hai, Founder of Dongguan ShangLe Lighting Technology Co., Ltd., focused on the theme "Interactive Installations Assisting High-Quality Night Tourism Development." He first briefly introduced the development history of night tourism, and then discussed "how to do night tourism well" with the audience by analyzing the psychology of main consumers, investors' objectives, and current pain points of night tourism. Finally, regarding interactive decorations, he proposed three core elements: "aesthetic appeal, experiential sense, and fashion sense."

Mr. Ang Zhengfeng, Senior Director of the Quality Management Center at NVC Lighting, focused on the theme "New Thoughts on Quality Management in the Lighting Industry Based on People-Oriented Principles." In his speech, he emphasized starting from the consumer's perspective, proposing that artificial lighting serves humanity. So, what are consumers' needs? Can the products make them feel happy? Do the products cause any harm to consumers? These are questions enterprises need to consider.

At 5:20 PM, the Forum was drawing to a close, but the atmosphere remained lively. The winner of the "Best Speaker" award was announced on site: Dr. Zhang Yi from HC Semitek Corporation. Mr. Gao Xiaodong, Executive Vice Chairman of the Guangdong Lighting Society, presented the award. He remarked that all the presentations by the guests were excellent and expressed his best wishes for the continued growth of the lighting industry.

Finally, under the guidance of the staff, all guests gathered on the first floor of the Quality Inspection Institute for a group photo, bringing this Forum to a successful conclusion.
