The 25th Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition (GILE) concluded successfully in October 2020, welcoming 2,028 exhibitors from 20 countries and regions, along with 141,868 professional visitors. Continuing the momentum of the 2020 professional exhibition for lighting and decorative lighting, the 26th edition will grandly open from June 9 to 12, 2021, at the China Import and Export Fair Complex. The exhibition will continue to adopt a cross-platform format, combining physical and online platforms, focusing on global lighting professionals to jointly explore future development and business opportunities, encouraging industry players to move forward in the recovering global lighting industry market.

According to the outlook report from the LED Research Division of the professional research institution TrendForce, global LED demand will bottom out and rebound in 2021, with an estimated output value of USD 15.7 billion, a year-on-year increase of 3.8%. Facing a bright prospect, the 2021 exhibition will take "Actionable Now, Promising Future" as its theme, discussing breakthroughs in the current lighting industry and looking forward to future industry trends. At present, while facing challenges and risks, new opportunities are also孕育 (brewing); how should lighting professionals create a new situation? In the future, how should the industry deploy? Through deep integration and thinking in terms of spatial scenarios, digital operations, resource integration, and new media marketing, practical operations will be realized.

Regarding the theme of the 2021 exhibition, Mr. Hu Zhongshun, General Manager of Guangzhou Guangya Messe Frankfurt Co., Ltd., stated: "The future is no longer out of reach; it is happening right now. Lighting peers need to continue to utilize lighting actively, enhance the value of light, and explore broader 'frontiers', including deep ultraviolet UVC LED, smart dimming, horticultural lighting, healthy lighting, etc., to verify that Internet+ and healthy lighting are no longer empty talk. At present, lighting professionals are moving forward bravely, inheriting the heavy and solid original intention of craftsmen, trying new concepts and ideas, creating just-right on-demand lighting, laying a solid foundation for the future development of the industry, allowing the century-old lighting industry to continue passing the torch and lighting up the world."

The trend of integration sparks a new industry wave — Pioneer Smart Healthy Cross-border Demonstration Hall

Intelligent cross-border integration, the major trend of interconnected scenario experience

With platforms such as Huawei, Alibaba, Baidu, Xiaomi, Tuya, and Ezviz publishing and implementing group standards for smart lighting interconnection based on PLC, Bluetooth Mesh, Wi-Fi, ZigBee, etc., the bottlenecks in interoperability between platforms will be broken. After removing the most critical barriers to the explosion of smart home lighting, lighting enterprises can connect with various platforms in a one-stop manner, significantly reducing R&D costs and personnel investment, while greatly improving personal smart scenario experiences. Both smart lighting and smart homes will reach an inflection point and achieve rapid growth. The smart lighting and smart home industries will bring new experiences and innovations to the industry and consumers. Meanwhile, as designers, engineering design units, new infrastructure planning, and business regulatory authorities deepen their understanding and continuous experimentation with intelligence, more intelligent scenario applications will gradually enter people's work and daily lives.

Lighting up life with "Light Health" — the major trend

"Light Health" is also the new blue ocean for the future lighting industry. Future healthy lighting adjusts the light source to best suit the immediate situation in response to changes in location and time, pursuing integration with the instantaneous environment.

Facing the grand future of intelligence and health, Guangzhou Guangya Messe Frankfurt Co., Ltd. joined forces with the Shanghai Pudong Smart Lighting Association (SILA) to create the pioneering Smart Health Cross-industry Demonstration Pavilion (Hall 9.2) at the 2021 exhibition. This initiative more comprehensively showcases interconnected technologies and builds intelligent scenarios. The demonstration zone will feature unified branding with logo authorization from platforms such as Huawei, Alibaba, Baidu, Xiaomi, Tencent, Tuya, and HiSilicon, gathering platforms, lighting brands, solutions, chips, and sensors for a one-stop display of PLC, Bluetooth Mesh, ZigBee, and Wi-Fi system solutions and scenario demonstration areas.

Regarding the outlook for the exhibition, Mr. Hu added: "2020 marks the beginning of a new era, where artificial intelligence, energy innovation, the post-pandemic context, and the dual circulation strategy have become major trends in the lighting industry. A new round of technological innovation has enabled LED to go beyond mere illumination, transcending traditional applications by integrating photobiology, light health, and optical communications through cross-industry development. This has created disruptive new applications in the lighting industry. The core strength of the industry will center on the Internet of Things based on next-generation information technology, ushering in manufacturing upgrades represented by intelligence. GILE will continue to promote industrial innovation, transformation and upgrading, and co-create more opportunities for industrial cooperation. We hope that every lighting professional involved can find their own suitable direction for development and win a future that belongs uniquely to them."
