Milwaukee adopts Signify's smart connected LED lighting system to illuminate the landmark Daniel Hoan Memorial Bridge

Global lighting leader Signify (Euronext Amsterdam code: LIGHT) recently announced the installation of a new smart connected LED lighting system on the west side of Milwaukee’s urban landmark, the Daniel Hoan Memorial Bridge. This dynamic, multicolor LED architectural lighting system, combined with Signify’s Interact Landmark smart connected lighting system, reshapes the city’s nighttime skyline and inspires urban cohesion and pride.

In 2018, the “Light Up Hoan” committee, composed of business and community leaders, launched a fundraising campaign aimed at revitalizing the economic and social environment around the Hoan Bridge. The points of light on the Hoan Bridge symbolize the city’s rich history and its contribution to improving residents’ quality of life. The bridge tightly connects Milwaukee, enhancing community interaction.

“Milwaukee is a city with a glorious history and full of positive energy. Completing the first phase of the Hoan Bridge lighting project can inspire each and every one of us. Regardless of age or wealth, we can all make significant contributions to the community,” said Ian Abston, co-founder of the Light Up Hoan project.

Signify's intelligent connected LED lighting solution includes over 1,800 sets of Color Kinetics FlexElite light strings and nearly 50 ArchPoint luminaires. These outdoor LED luminaires create striking direct-view white and colored light effects, which can be adjusted according to settings for holidays, sporting events, or other activities. The programmable features of Interact Landmark can add dynamic effects to light shows and synchronize with music, further showcasing community development achievements through inspiring visual experiences.

"When establishing the Light Up the Hoan project, our envisioned goal was to integrate a new lifestyle into this landmark and promote economic development. As the project evolved, its significance expanded. Over the past two years, we have promoted the great achievements of non-profit organizations in various corners of the city, established connections with multiple organizations including Islands of Brilliance, and continued to empower the community," said Michael Hosted, co-founder of the Light Up the Hoan project. "Today, we have completed the lighting engineering on the west side of the bridge, and we look forward to the subsequent implementation of more projects."

In addition, through the Light Up the Hoan project, Signify and other local organizations jointly created a unique practical education program. This program will leverage the bridge to offer learning projects in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics for Milwaukee students, fully utilizing the bridge's lighting system to provide technical courses such as programming.

Signify provided one-stop installation and commissioning services for the Light Up the Hoan bridge illumination project. During operation, remote monitoring and lighting management services are provided to ensure optimal lighting effects. The illumination project on the east side of the bridge will also start simultaneously.

The lighting project made its debut on October 22, 2020. A light and music show with the bridge as the backdrop was live-streamed to the city's residents to celebrate the new unveiling of this landmark.
