Global lighting leader Signify (Euronext Amsterdam ticker: LIGHT) recently announced that it has successfully illuminated the core of the Guanyin Dharma Realm project in Zhejiang Province, China – the Guanyin Holy Altar, using luminaires and Neon Screens from its Color Kinetics (CK) brand. This marks the first application of Neon Screens on an architectural dome. Through the perfect combination of dynamic light colors, projection, and music, it highlights the lighting design concepts of "introducing skylight" and "the vase containing Mount Sumeru" by the designer, iGuzzini Lighting Design.

The internal structure of the Guanyin Holy Altar resembles a precious vase, a symbol of Guanyin, concretizing "Mount Sumeru," which represents the universe in Buddhism. The aluminum alloy grid of the mountain body and the back panel of the Buddha statue are illuminated by 4,500 CK PureStyle IntelliHue Powercore luminaires. Advanced CK IntelliHue color mixing technology allows precise control, enabling the luminaires to deliver high-quality white light (color temperature adjustable from 2,000K to 10,000K), delicate pastel light, or highly saturated colored light effects.

Since the interior space of Mount Sumeru is an enclosed structure, natural light cannot be introduced. The design boldly installs CK Neon Screens, covering an area of approximately 60 square meters, on the architectural dome, presenting the sky to the world for the first time. The CK Neon Screens installed on the dome of the Guanyin Holy Altar can simulate a series of natural light conditions through dynamic light colors, paired with soft music, creating a superior experience. CK Neon Screen is a highly customized, high-performance lighting system that perfectly combines colorful LED light sources with fabric panels that soften light and integrate music.

"The altar, representing Guanyin, is the core design concept of the entire building, while illuminating the vase to achieve a translucent, luminous effect akin to Guanyin is the key focus of the lighting design," said Wang Jianping, Design Director at Shanghai Aite Lighting Design Co., Ltd. "Signify's CK Purestyle linear lights offer excellent light color performance and a refined, compact design, seamlessly integrating into the required positions, making them the most crucial element for creating atmosphere with light in the space."

"Signify's CK brand provides professional lighting applications for lighting designers and end customers, creating 'beyond what you see' high-quality lighting projects. CK luminaires and CK Nishang screens perfectly realize the design concept of this project, and we are very proud of this," said Wang Yun, Senior Vice President of Signify Global and President of Greater China.

The Guanyin Altar is an important part of the Putuoshan Guanyin Dharma Realm project. The Guanyin Dharma Realm is committed to creating a Guanyin Expo Park themed around Guanyin culture, integrating functions of pilgrimage, sightseeing, experience, and education, and showcasing the essence of Bodhisattva Guanyin and Guanyin culture.
