OSRAM Dynamic Lighting Project Wins 2020 IES Lighting Award

Shanghai, China, September 3, 2020 – Recently, the new parking garage at San Francisco International Airport, illuminated by Traxon e:cue, a subsidiary brand of OSRAM and global leader in dynamic lighting, won the 2020 IES Award of Excellence. The dynamic lighting in the new garage impressed the jury with two highlights: an immersive light art installation and outstanding intelligent control.

"In the new garage at San Francisco Airport, all luminaires are connected to a peer-to-peer, self-healing wireless network. Each luminaire is equipped with a sensor that can directly communicate human movement information with adjacent luminaires. Device updates enable hierarchy-free full-system synchronization and fine-tuning of lighting upon detection of human activity. The system also features closed-loop daylight harvesting. Furthermore, the lighting design of the garage is unique. Starting from entering the elevator tower, travelers are immersed in an artistic installation. Panel lights convey Morse code messages through 'dots' and 'dashes', while changing ceiling and space colors create kinetic elements that amplify travelers' vertical movements. For many travelers, the garage is their first and last stop on their journey, making it crucial to create a distinctive and thoughtful parking experience."

San Francisco International Airport is the largest airport in Northern California and a major international gateway. Opened in 1927, it has witnessed the rise and development of the city, serving as a symbol of local history. The Traxon e:cue dynamic lighting solution mainly includes Dot XL* luminaires, Washer Quattro RGBW luminaires, and the e:cue dynamic lighting control system. This transforms the entire garage, including the elevator tower, into an immersive experience environment. By coordinating light displays, it creates a mini 'light show' in the new garage at San Francisco Airport, realizing the designer's artistic vision while significantly enhancing the travel environment at the airport.
