The Cathedral of Argentina uses Megaman® LED technology to create an extraordinary audiovisual effect
The Basilica Nuestra Senora Del Socorro in Buenos Aires, Argentina, commissioned internationally renowned lighting designer Ernesto Diz (founder of the eponymous company) to develop a lighting renovation plan. In addition to infusing this church with deep religious heritage with new vitality, Ernesto also had to ensure that the lighting met the needs of daily congregations. The church installed more than 270 Megaman® LED light bulbs that combine aesthetics and energy saving. Compared with traditional quartz lamps, this saves 1,882 euros in electricity costs annually and reduces CO2 emissions by 28,977 kilograms*.

Ernesto Diz, who served as a professor of lighting design in Buenos Aires, has lighting works including the famous Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. He stated: "I wanted to showcase the grand and solemn interior atmosphere of the cathedral. My design concept was to draw the congregation's attention from the aisles to the central pulpit while separately illuminating the artistic masterpieces of the church. To achieve this, narrow-angle spotlights were used for key components, while wide-angle warm-colored wall washers were used for the columns to create a visual framework for the altar and magnificent statues. Although this was my first time using Megaman® LED lights, they far exceeded my expectations."
The latest LED technology not only provides excellent spotlight effects and color rendering, but also ensures that classic works in the church are not damaged by heat or optical radiation. Megaman® LED AR111 and PAR30L light bulbs offer excellent lighting intensity and color rendering, produce no ultraviolet or infrared rays, and leave no residual glare, making them ideal for religious and historical buildings such as the Basilica Nuestra Senora Del Socorro, and the perfect choice for 21st-century lighting solutions.

The cathedral has a long history, having been built in 1750, initially funded by a Spanish devotee of Our Lady of Mercy. From the marble and agate baptismal font to the ceiling frescoes and gold leaf on the altar, and finally to the statue of San Martín de Tours, the patron saint of Buenos Aires, the Basilica of Our Lady of Mercy is not only a magnificent landmark but also a religious sanctuary for local worshippers.
Father Gustavo Boquin of the Basilica of Our Lady of Mercy stated: "We had considered renovating the church many years ago, and the lighting also needed upgrading. There are numerous artworks, frescoes, and statues on the church walls; we not only wanted to highlight the beauty of each piece but also reduce annual lighting energy consumption."
Manjia Mei® LED AR111 spotlights not only deliver dramatic visual effects, but their energy saving benefits far exceed those of quartz lamps, earning high praise from the church management. Father Gustavo Boquin stated: "The lighting upgrade not only enhanced the aesthetic appeal of the church but also made energy consumption management effortless! Compared to traditional quartz lamps, LED lighting significantly reduces energy consumption, saving €1,888 in electricity costs annually."
*Energy consumption calculation basis:
244 units of 10W LED AR111 spotlights (operating 12 hours per day, 7 days a week), compared to 50W quartz lamps
28 units of 15W LED PAR30L spotlights (operating 12 hours per day, 7 days a week), compared to 50W quartz lamps
