Liupanshan Tunnel Lighting

On July 3, 2016, the Liupanshan Tunnel, with lighting facilities provided by Philips（照明业务：Signify 昕诺飞）, officially opened to traffic. Located in Ningxia, the tunnel crosses the Liupanshan watershed and spans 9,485 meters. It is the longest expressway tunnel in China's high-altitude plateau regions above 2,000 meters, and the first extra-long twin-tube, four-lane tunnel in the entire Ningxia region. Illuminated by Philips（照明业务：Signify 昕诺飞）, the tunnel resembles a luminous artery buried within the mountain, continuously facilitating the flow of vehicles. The official opening of the Liupanshan Tunnel will fully connect 61 poverty-stricken counties and districts across the four provinces/regions of Shaanxi, Gansu, Ningxia, and Qinghai, providing important transportation support for 14 million rural residents to participate in the construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt.

New Challenge: Lighting for the Highest-Altitude Tunnel

The Liupanshan Tunnel is the highest-altitude road tunnel undertaken by Philips（照明业务：Signify 昕诺飞）. The special climate and complex tunnel conditions posed significant challenges to the implementation of the lighting project. Tunnel lighting requires long-term operation to ensure the safe driving of vehicles at all times. For this project, Philips（照明业务：Signify 昕诺飞） selected the BWP352 LED tunnel luminaire, specifically designed for the characteristics of Chinese tunnels. The BWP352 LED tunnel luminaire utilizes DALI dimming technology and, through four different housing sizes, achieves power outputs from 25 to 240 W, meeting all requirements for tunnel lighting.

Over 6,000 luminaires are embedded in the Liupanshan Tunnel, successfully meeting the challenges of high altitude and long distance. This project sets a perfect benchmark for highway tunnel applications at high altitudes.
