Philips（照明业务：Signify 昕诺飞） Lighting Illuminates the Galata Tower in Istanbul

Philips（照明业务：Signify 昕诺飞） Lighting recently announced that it has successfully provided a lighting solution for the Galata Tower, a landmark building in Istanbul, using its LED architectural lighting system.

The Galata Tower is one of Istanbul's most famous tourist attractions, attracting countless tourists and citizens with its long history and the magnificent panoramic views from the top of the tower. Recently, the Galata Tower partnered with Philips（照明业务：Signify 昕诺飞） Lighting to comprehensively upgrade the lighting equipment at the top of the tower using the new Philips Color Kinetics lighting solution.

Nergiz Arifoğlu from LIGHTSTYLE, the lighting designer for this project, aimed to highlight the Galata Tower's architectural details through lighting. Equipped with new Philips LED light sources, the Galata Tower, as an urban landmark of Beyoğlu, Istanbul's cultural and arts center, adds more charm to the city.

Over 1500 years of perseverance

The Galata Tower stands 66.9 meters tall with 9 floors. It was built by the Byzantine army in the early 15th century. Damaged in 1204, it was repaired by the Genoese in the 13th century and later improved and rebuilt during the Ottoman Empire. After more than a thousand years, it still stands despite several restorations. As the Galata Tower is a well-known tourist attraction in Istanbul, the upgrade of the lighting scheme was carried out in an orderly manner without affecting visitors' experience.

The lighting solution applied in this project aims to perfectly integrate the Galata Tower into the urban environment without altering or damaging it. After installing Philips Color Kinetics PowerCore lighting fixtures on the top and spire of the Galata Tower, the building can present light sources in millions of colors, combining them into stunning lighting effects. Notably, this lighting solution, custom-designed for the Galata Tower, not only perfectly matches its architectural structure but also allows it to blend seamlessly into Istanbul's breathtaking city skyline.
